What is technical editing?
Knitting pattern technical editing is a close, methodical review of a knitting pattern before it reaches knitters. It catches the small errors that are easy to miss when you’ve been staring at your own draft — a miscounted stitch, an inconsistent abbreviation, a chart that doesn’t match the written instructions — so the finished pattern is something a knitter can follow with confidence.

What I edit
At this time, I offer technical editing for hats, cowls, scarves & shawls, mittens & gloves, socks, headbands & ear warmers, blankets & afghans, and other small accessory or home projects. If you’re unsure whether your pattern qualifies, just reach out – I’m happy to chat.
The process
Initial Review & Quote
You’ll send me your draft pattern, charts (if applicable), schematic, style guide, and your target timeline. I’ll review the material and provide a quote and estimated turnaround time.
We will agree on price and timeline before I begin any review or edits.
Technical Edit
During the edit, I will verify stitch counts, check for consistency, confirm charts and written instructions align, flag unclear wording, review for clarity and logical flow, ensure consistency in terminology and abbreviations, check measurements against gauge, and review yardage estimates for reasonableness. All edits are made using tracked changes so you can review every suggestion.
Editor Notes & Questions
You will receive back the marked pattern, questions that require designer decisions, and suggestions for clarity. I am to be thorough but collaborative – you always make the final decisions.
After you revise based on the edit, I am happy to review responses to major changes and provide a final pass before publication.
